Meet John

“Now I know He is always there for me. God is my everything.”

“The Mission helped me draw closer to God.”

John felt like he was losing everything he’d always held dear.

“My wife divorced me, I lost my job, my brother passed away… my life fell apart.”

The grief and loneliness were too much to bear, and John fell into a deep depression. His pride in being sober for two decades disintegrated when he started drinking again to numb the pain. He felt ashamed, and knew there was a better way to live and be a father.

“I remembered I’d heard of Evansville Rescue Mission 20 years ago when I used to work at a treatment center in town. I had nowhere to go and ended up coming here.”

The day he walked into your Evansville Rescue Mission, everything changed for John.

“I thought it was going to be just a brief stay,” he says, smiling. “Then they mentioned the P.A.C.E.S. program as a way to get closer to God.”

“This is more than just a homeless shelter… it’s a Mission that helps people get a new vision of life.”

John had turned his back on God many years before, but in our care, he’s learning to trust again.

“I don’t believe God is punishing me anymore. I don’t believe that He’s forsaken me and that I’ve ruined my life.”

His faith is growing through Bible study, chapel services, and life-skills classes. Now he’s repairing the relationship with his three kids, and he hopes to find a job and a place to live after graduation.

“I don’t really have a vision yet of what my life is going to be, but I know God has a plan for me. I want to do what He wants.

You may never meet John, but he’s eternally grateful to YOU for your support – today, his heart is filled with new hope for the future. “I trust that God has a plan for my life even though I don’t see Him. I have that belief and hope.”
